Beyond Governance: Rethinking Health System Governance in Canada
As Canada’s health care crisis reflects deeper problems in system governance, there is a need to rethink and strengthen health system governance in Canada. But what exactly, is “governance,” and why (if at all) is it useful in thinking about health care systems? How, specifically, is the term used in discussions of Canadian health policy? Much of the literature on governance tends to be merely descriptive or highly aspirational, and there is a need for conceptual clarity.
This knowledge mobilization project explores how “governance” is used in discussions of Canadian health care, what the limitations of this discourse are, and the ways in which “governance” can be applied more constructively within Canadian health policy.
